The Importance of Time Management for Families


To all the moms out there, who much like myself, worry that they are feeding their children enough of the right things to protect their growing bodies…….this article is for YOU! 
This is not to say that Dads don’t concern themselves with what their children eat, but truthfully and traditionally, in most households, the majority of the shopping, planning and preparing of meals, not to mention, choosing the right venues to dine at, are the responsibility of the “Matriarch.” 
Regardless of who is responsible for the family “meal planning” in your home, it can be an extremely daunting and pressured filled job.  All you have to do is tap into the media; whether it be television, newspapers, magazines or our vast social media network, the message is ramping up……We are what we eat!” 
We live in a world where time has become such a precious commodity.  Many families today are dual income, and face the pressures and time requirements of a highly competitive workplace.  We are forced to juggle work, school schedules, extra curricular activities and household responsibilities.

Despite the fact that most people are aware of the effects of eating processed foods, foods filled with additives and preservatives, we continue to make food choices that are “convenient”, “quick” and “easy.” 
Not all is lost though, educating ourselves and making some easy changes to our buying and eating habits can have a profoundly positive effect on our bodies.  Here are some examples:
  1. “Everything in moderation” is a great philosophy to adhere to. 
  2. Buy “Locally” grown fruits and vegetables that haven’t been altered in any way whenever possible.
  3. There is a lot of information out there, educate yourself so that you are making informed choices.
  4. “If you can’t afford to buy everything organic, stick to the rule of the “dirty dozen.”  These are the 12 fruits and vegetables you should buy organic because they are more susceptible to contamination from pesticides.”
  5. “Stick to the most natural and real ingredients you can find with the no fillers and as little alteration as possible. Food should be transformed from its natural state by you, in your own kitchen using your own seasoning, healthy oils and steaming or blending procedures.”

Mill Street’s Tankhouse is back on tap at Jawny Bakers and we’re happy to showcase it’s supreme flavour and powerful hoppy taste as one of our featured selections. 



Those who enjoy a full bodied beer should look to this selection with hints of citrus and chocolate on the nose with a dry, bitter and malty taste. 

Pairs amazingly with a spicy dish like the Bayou Jambalaya or Bombay Chicken Curry.

Featured Beverage: J'Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon


This particularly dense vintage is red-purple in colour.  

With aromas of currant, plum and cherry, this wine is balanced through 1 year of barrel aging resulting in hints of vanilla and spice. 


The rich tannin structure of this wine is pleasantly offset with a selection of one of our more flavourful steaks, like the New York Striploin and a fantastic Rib Eye like this month’s feature

Legendary the world over, this is certainly one beer that needs little in the way of introduction.  


With a passion and fandom that rivals some of the world’s most popular brands, Guinness is the preferred beverage by drinkers on March 17th. You can’t get this beer in Green, but maybe that’s what makes it so appealing.

This past week I had the pleasure of meeting a young family who was dining with us for the first time.  It was much to my surprise that they had searched us out as a result of an article in the March issue of “Today’s Parent.”(An article I knew nothing about until that moment).

The mother commented that the article caught her attention; with a young family she always found it challenging to find a restaurant where she felt comfortable enough bringing her kids, yet one that had the sophistication and food quality for adult dining. The article in Today’s Parent led her to us.



We are so proud and humbled that a magazine like Today’s Parent, one that thousands of subscribers have come to know and trust for valued advice, would chose us among the thousands of restaurants in Toronto to write about.

Great new Features for March & April

Are you ready for some great new taste creations coming from the Jawny Bakers Kitchen this month?

Russell and the team at JB's have been working their (lobster) tails off to make sure that this month's selections on our feature menu goes above and beyond our usual fantastic fare.


With a great new steak, the 16oz bone-in Rib Steak, making it's first appearance, now is a great time to indulge in that surf and turf dinner you have been holding out for.

Take a look at the new seafood dishes that take our usual delicate handling of seafood and crank it up to 11. Moorthy and our chef team have created some great new sauces to accompany the feature selections this month, and the Mango Jalapeño salsa accompanying this month's Crispy Baked Basa dish is no exception.

Fans of last month's Carlo's Schnitzel have another great creation to look forward to this month. We will be presenting a Pork Schnitzel who's rich flavour and amazing texture will impress those who enjoyed last month, and will no doubt pickup some new fans along the way.

And I don't even have time to tell you about the amazing stew creation that is rolling out of our kitchen in honour of March's celebration of all things Irish. You will just have to experience that one all for yourself.
